Difficult and defiant as a child, Bran Crowther, Earl of Knighton left England as a young man to pursue independence and ad

venture. He never expected to inherit the title and when duty calls him home, he still finds Society’s codes constricting and others’ expectations oppressive. Nevertheless, he needs a wife to be a mother to his young daughter, preferably a woman of intelligence and warmth who is, above all, immune to his idiosyncrasies–and to falling in love.

Widow Joanna Shaw isn’t interested in a second marriage, not after the loveless, passionless union she endured. She’d much rather dote on her young niece and nephew since they will likely be the only children in her life…until she meets a precocious girl, in desperate need of a mother. But her father, the so-called Duke of Defiance, is as peculiar as he is handsome, and Jo won’t take another risk with her heart. Their rules, however, are made to be broken, even when the consequences could destroy them both.

I loved the Duke of  Defiance!  This is the kind of book you hate when it is over and I had to make myself stop reading just so I wouldn’t have to leave the fun of Knighton’s (aka Bran) and Joanna’s story! Darcy Burke’s Duke of Defiance is a little different than the typical bodice ripper/historical romance.  It is different because the Earl of Knighton is always taking his clothes off, not just hers! When widowed Joanna meets the reluctant new Earl of Knighton, she feels a new feeling of attraction after her loveless marriage to a vicar. Bran is a single father, just returned from the islands to become Earl after the deaths of his brothers and father.

What makes Bran soooooo sexy is not his constant shedding of clothing that he despises, but his devotion to his six-year-old daughter, Evie. Joanna and Bran having been in previous marriages ignite this romance quickly (thank goodness!). They feel the pressure of society’s requirements and decide they don’t really care.  The story of the romance and Bran’s reluctant re-entry to London society is fun and different that the usual high society balls (although there are still some of those) and “oh no he’s going to ruin me” story.

Loving Burke’s series and this can be read as a standalone.  Another awesome summer book!

The Untouchables Book 4

Release Date: March 28th, 2017

Ten years ago Ivy Breckenridge’s life was ruined. She had to reinvent herself, and now, after painstakingly making her own way in the world, she’s nearly forgotten the dreams of home and family she’d once nurtured. Until one man peers into her soul and awakens every one of her hidden desires. But no matter how good he makes her feel, she can’t trust him—alone by choice is better than alone by necessity.

With a notorious reputation for training married women in the art of passion, Sebastian Westgate, Duke of Clare, is reviled by some and celebrated by others. He doesn’t allow anyone close enough to see past his charming exterior. When Ivy uncovers the man beneath, the seducer is suddenly the seduced. Enraptured by her mind and spirit, he wants more but revealing his darkest secrets is a price he won’t pay.

Oh the Duke of Desire (or the Duke of Clare, West – as he is know by his friends) will make you swoon!

While The Duke of Clare (West) has a scandalous reputation, he is actually a man with a heart and a mission.  He is involved with married women to teach them the art of love, with their husband’s permission (if not insistence ).

Ivy is a independent woman who believes in helping others that society has forgotten.  Ivy is also a woman with a secret – she was ruined (aka she lost her virginity to a man who didn’t marry her).  She has reinvented herself as a mature woman’s companion.

West is taken with the lovely Ivy.  What starts out as a curiosity becomes life changing for both of them.

The Duke of Desire is a fun romp through England.  The characters are engaging and interesting.  There is a passion with the character of West that really kept me engaged.  I enjoyed the book thoroughly.

While this is the 4th book, I hadn’t read the other three and didn’t feel I was missing out on the story.  This story really focuses on West and Ivy, while the other stories focused on what are supporting players in this book.

While there was some spicy parts, it was pretty tame.  This book is very much about the romance of West and Ivy and if they can overcome society and their own expectations of what life is supposed to be for them. Definitely looking forward to reading more Darcy Burke books!
